BIO-ALL Hackathon aims at involving multiskilled international working groups and promoting innovative entrepreneurship stemming from university students.  Thus reinforcing the competence and knowledge in the Bio-Health Sector of participants enrolled in the Bio-All Post-Graduation ProgrammeAdvanced Skills for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the BIOHEALTH Sector”.

Participants will have the opportunity to work together with Bio-Health business leaders and mentors for the development of their proposed solutions into projects.

The event embraces United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and European Green Deal, which are the main regulatory and policy instruments for sustainable development: for this reason, each solution proposed by teams shall address at least two SDGs!

The Hackathon is promoted within the EU funded Project Bio-All and organized by the three Bio-All Project university partners, namely Universidade da Beira Interior (PT), Universidad de Granada (ES) and Università Politecnica delle Marche (IT) with the support of Friuli Innovazione business incubator, INOVA+, CubeLabs Accelerator and INBB. 

 

Hackathon goal

Participants’ mission is to form teams and deliver a solution to one of the challenges related either to Bio-Health or Pandemic area, available here. 

Solutions must clearly address at least two UN Sustainable Development Goals.

During the two days event, registered teams - that have agreed in advance on a creative solution addressing one of the proposed challenges - will develop their projects with the support of international mentors.

 

Dates and event structure

BIO-ALL Hackathon will take place online on 27th & 28th May 2021, starting from 27th May 10:00 CEST and closing up on 28th May 18:00 CEST, with winners’ announcing. 

The event agenda includes: challenges presentation, inspirational speech and team working sessions supported by qualified mentors for projects’ development. 

During the hackathon, teams’ projects development will be boosted thanks to a 4 phases iterative process: Design -> Test -> Experiments-> Mindset.  Each phase will be led by mentors who will apply Design Thinking methodology and business development tools like Business Model Canvas, Value Proposition and others.

The event will take place mainly on Zoom and DevPost platforms. DevPost platform will be used to register to the hackathon, create a solution project draft, form teams and submit final projects. The use of other web tools may be suggested by organizers to enrich participants’ experience.

BREAKER, the Entrepreneurship Centre of the University of Granada, is an innovative, experimental space that boasts over 500 square metres of floor space, two training classrooms, a co-working space and conference room, as well as several UGR startup incubator offices designed for entrepreneurial mentoring projects which will be delivered by leading experts.
Winner of the hackaton will have a six-months free allocation at BREAKER. During that period, the team will have full access to the entrepreneurship facilities of the UGR, including 30 hours of mentoring and assessing from experts and direct access to Talento Emprendedor programme during term 2021/22.

The event is open to:

  • university students enrolled in Universidade da Beira Interior (PT), Universidad de Granada (ES) and Università Politecnica delle Marche (IT)

  • students enrolled in the International Post-Graduation Programme “Advanced Skills for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the BIOHEALTH Sector” and any other participant involved in their teams

  • other university students from Portugal, Spain and Italy

The Hackathon organizers will limit the participation to a maximum of 15 teamsIn case of overbooking first-in-best-served principle will be applied, unless organizers decide to assess the credibility of the teams and potential reliability of participation in the hackathon. A waiting list may be created.

Each student may join no more than one team.

IMPORTANT The maximum number of team members is 6, the minimum is 2. 

At least one team member must be enrolled in University partners (Universida do Beira Interior, Universidad de Granada, Università Politecnica delle Marche) or in the International Post-Graduation Programme “Advanced Skills for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the BIOHEALTH Sector”. Any additional registration may be evaluated by the organizers and admitted upon availability. 

Before the hackathon the organizers might suggest to add participants to the registered teams in order to increase its value.

Requirements

Valid submission of final projects developed during the Hackathon should include:

- Project description on DevPost project page (feel free to include any relevant pictures, links, etc.)

- Pitch presentation using the format made available by organizers

Each team have to submit its final project before 28th May 16:30 CEST, following instructions available from BIO-ALL Project website https://www.bioall.eu and shared during the online event!
